When you think of the back-to-school season, you may often think of kids and not necessarily adult students. The Muzetta Thrower Adult Education Center wants to change that with its vision of empowering adults to believe it’s never too late to return to school.
The Adult Education Center welcomed its students for the 2023-2024 school year in September, allowing adults to continue their educational journey. Their theme for this school year is “Trust the process and bet on yourself.” There are a wide variety of free programs and classes to enroll in:
- Adult Secondary Education: High School Diploma, GED preparation
- Basic Computer Skills
- English Language Acquisition: English as a Second Language (ESL), Basic ESL Computers, Citizenship
Fee-based classes include:
- Career Technical Education: Accounting, Business Entrepreneurship, Clerical Assistant, and Hospitality
- Workforce Preparation: Paraeducator, Custodian
- Community Classes: Conversational Spanish, Google Suite, Ethnic Studies, Introduction to Healthcare, Crochet, Digital Cutting (Cricut)
Returning to school as an adult can be challenging with competing priorities involving careers or children. They provide a low-cost nursery for its students (and even its staff) so that access to childcare will not be a barrier for adults to continue their education.
Registration is open for the fall semester via their website, or you may apply in person at their new location at 194 Bella Vista Road in Vacaville.
